NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Two members of the Yale men's cross country and track and field program were honored for their academic work Thursday, as
Robert Miranda '22 (Atherton, Calif.) and
Juma Sei '22 (Portland, Ore.) were named first team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Miranda was an Academic All-Ivy League selection in cross country last fall and for indoor track and field this past winter. He earned second team All-Ivy at the Ivy League Cross Country Championships with a 10th place finish. Indoors, he broke the school record in the 3000m run with a time of 7:51.91 and anchored the distance medley relay team to a runner-up finish at the Ivy League Indoor Championships and second team All-Ivy recognition. Outdoors, he set the school record in the 5000m run and scored at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships with a sixth-place finish.
Miranda is a graduate of Menlo High School and earned his Yale degree in mathematics and computer science. He was a member of Pauli Murray College.
Sei, Yale's track and field captain, was the 2022 Ivy and IC4A 500m champion indoors. He took fourth in the 400m at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships.
Sei has been a regular contributor to the team score at Heps throughout his career, taking fourth in the 400m at the 2020 Ivy Indoor Championships, second in the 400m at the 2019 Ivy Outdoor Championships and second in the 4x400m relay at the 2019 Ivy Outdoor Championships 2019.
Sei was an Academic All-Ivy League honoree for outdoor track and field this spring. He is extensively involved in community service and recently earned Yale's Ford Award for his work in that area.
Sei is a graduate of the Catlin Gabel School and earned his Yale degree in American studies. He was a member of Ezra Stiles College.
Miranda and Sei were two of 11 Academic All-District honorees in District 1, which includes all Division I schools in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. The award is determined by voting from members of CoSIDA.
Miranda and Sei are now candidates for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced June 21.
