HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England – The Yale heavyweights' run at the Henley Royal Regatta came to an end with a loss to Leander Club in the semifinals of the Ladies' Challenge Plate on a rainy Saturday.
Yale had advanced to the semis with a win on Friday, beating Molesey B.C. and Mercantile R.C. by two lengths. On Saturday the Bulldogs were even with Leander in the early going, but Leander established an open-water lead by the halfway point and never looked back, winning by two lengths.
The Bulldogs had a strong senior contingent in the boat, racing together for the final time:
Freddie Elwes, Andrin Gulich, Alex Jeremijenko and
Daire Lynch and
Jack Morton. The boat also included juniors
Patrick Craig and
Noah Norman. Joe Long was the lone first year. Sophomore
Esha Bhattacharya was the coxswain.
In addition to advancing to the semis at Henley, Yale's notable accomplishments this year included sweeping archrival Harvard, being named EARC Crew of the Year, earning the Ten Eyck Memorial Cup at IRAs and winning the Rowe Cup and an Ivy League Championship at Eastern Sprints. Yale's 1V placed second at IRAs, while the 2V and 3V won IRA Championships.
