NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Following a stretch of four-straight road contests, the Yale women's soccer program returns to Reese Stadium on Saturday night to open Ivy League play when it hosts Princeton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Bulldogs (3-4-1) are undefeated at home this season (3-0-1) and look to snap a four-game skid with losses on the road to Kansas State, Kansas, UConn and Buffalo. Yale and Princeton have split their last two meetings, with the Tigers winning last season, 4-0, and the Elis winning a 1-0 decision in 2019.
Behind the strong play of sophomore goalkeeper
Maya Bellomo, Yale has surrendered only one goal in four home matches this season. The Bulldogs' defense posted shutouts against Hofstra, Boston University and Fordham in the first two weeks of the season, going 3-0-1 in that time.
Sophomore midfielder
Ellie Rappole remains the team's leading point scorer this season with five (two goals, one assist). First year defender
Belle Golden is close behind with four points (one goal, two assists) to help lead Yale's offensive attack.
Yale was outscored, 9-2, on its road trips the past two weekends, but it looks to rebound when conference play begins on Saturday under the lights against Princeton. The Tigers have won five of the past six meetings against the Bulldogs, dating back to 2014.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
Princeton (5-3) has won two of its past three matches, including victories over Delaware and George Mason at home. The Tigers went 6-1 in the conference and earned a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2021 – ultimately falling to No. 8 TCU in double overtime.
Heather MacNab is Princeton's leading scorer with nine points (four goals, one assist) this season, while
Pietra Tordin has added eight points (four goals). Head coach
Sean Driscoll enters his eighth year at the helm of Princeton women's soccer.
