NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Athletic Department is proud to be hosting the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Harmony Classic at Yale Bowl, Class of 1954 Field this Saturday. The Yale football team hosts Howard at 12:00 p.m.
For more than 10 years, the Connecticut NAACP State Conference has been organizing the classic – which this year includes marching band performances, games, vendors and more – to inspire peace, fellowship and harmony on college campuses.
Activities prior to the game in Hospitality Village include a health fair, a job fair, Yale Affinity Groups, the United Way of Greater New Haven and WYBC radio.
Halftime will feature a performance by the Howard "Showtime" Marching Band. In addition to performing at all Howard home football games, "Showtime" has a travel schedule that has included performances at numerous NFL games, including the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Washington Commanders, Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.
In addition, "Showtime" accompanied Vice President Kamala Harris – an alumna of Howard University – to the White House shortly after she took her oath of office, along with President Joe Biden. The band also performed during the 2009 Inauguration Parade of President Barack Obama.
Fans are encouraged to promote harmony during the game. All Yale football fans and Historically Black College and University (HBCU) alums are invited to share their game day photos on social media and use the hashtags #NAACPHARMONYCLASSIC and #ThisIsYale
