The Yale men's hockey team will play two games on the road this weekend. The Bulldogs will first head to North Andover, Mass. for a meeting with nationally ranked Merrimack before making the trek north to Burlington for a game against Vermont. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.
Bulldog Bytes
- Yale (2-10-1, 1-8-1 ECAC) is coming off a triumphant 5-1 win over Army on Jan. 2.
- David Chen has found his way onto the scoresheet in seven of Yale's 13 games so far this season. Chen leads the team in goals and points with four apiece.
- Briggs Gammill is second on the team in points with three goals and three assists.
- Luke Pearson emerged at the end of the 2022 calendar year. The sophomore has made four appearances this season and has a 1-1-1 record. He currently sports a .957 save percentage with 1.34 goals against average. Against Army, he posted 22 saves and allowed just one goal en route to victory.
Scouting Merrimack
- The Warriors (14-5-0, 9-2-0 HEA) are winners of four of their last five games.
- Three of those wins were in conference play and on the road against No. 9 UConn (7-3), No. 15 UMass Amherst (2-1), and No. 11 Providence (3-2).
- Merrimack is tied for first with UConn in the Hockey East conference.
- Alex Jeffries is the leading point getter for the Warriors with six goals and 18 assists, good for 24 points.
- Matt Copponi leads the squad in goals with 10 on the season. He is also second on the team in points (18) thanks to eight helpers to go with his 10 goals.
- Merrimack has shared net guarding duties between Zachary Borgiel and Hugo Ollas, with the latter seeing more time. Ollas has a 6-5 record, .921 save percentage and a 2.03 goals against average. On the flipside, Borgiel sports a perfect 8-0 record and has a .927 save percentage.

Scouting Vermont
- The Catamounts (7-12-1, 2-10-0 HEA) have dropped three of its last five games.
- Vermont sits in the 10th spot of the Hockey East standings.
- The meeting with the Bulldogs will be their first tilt of the 2023 calendar year. Â
- Jacques Bouquot is the leading scorer for the Catamounts with four goals and eight assists to date. Three of his goals were on the powerplay.
- Isak Walther has also contributed for Vermont with three goals and seven assists.
- Gabe Carriere has seen the most time in goal for the Catamounts. Carriere has a 7-8 record, a .916 save percentage and a 2.37 goals against average.
Last Meeting with the Catamounts
Yale won the last meeting with Vermont, 4-2, on Nov. 24, 2021. The Bulldogs had four different goal scorers:
Ryan Carmichael,
Graham Lillibridge,
Teddy Wooding, and
William Dineen.
Teddy Wooding notched the game-winner, while
Nathan Reid picked up the win in net with 23 saves.
Noting History
Vermont holds the edge in the last 10 meetings between the two programs, 5-4-1. After winning the first five games of that stretch, Yale went 4-0-1 and outscored Vermont, 16-8, in that span.
