Beales Delivers Another OT Winner; Yale Tops Dartmouth 2-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the second time in 10 days on Friday night at Johnson Field, sophomore forward Poppy Beales played the part of overtime hero for the Yale field hockey team. Her diving redirection of a shot by senior midfielder Maddy Wong 2:32 into OT slipped past Dartmouth goalie Ava Carlson for the game-winner as Yale beat the Big Green 2-1. Beales had also netted the game-winner in OT at Brown Oct. 4.

Notes
  • Dartmouth goalie Ava Carlson had a strong game and got to work right away, making a kick save on a shot by first-year forward Emma Ramsey five minutes in. Carlson finished with six saves.
  • Yale senior goalkeeper Luanna Summer made a nice kick save on a shot by Dartmouth midfielder Florentina Terra midway through the second quarter. Yale limited the Big Green to one shot on goal the rest of the way.
  • After Carlson made a kick save on a shot by sophomore forward Poppy Beales three minutes into the third, the Bulldogs earned a penalty corner. They turned it into the game-tying goal when junior back Colette Staadecker blasted in a shot set up by junior back Keely Comizio off an insertion by junior midfielder/forward Ellie Barlow.
  • Carlson made her best save of the night with 8:30 left in the fourth, charging out to deny an attempt by sophomore forward/midfielder Lauren Venter.
  • Beales' overtime game-winner was her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
  • The win gives Yale sole possession of fifth in the Ivy League standings, 1.5 games behind fourth-place Princeton for the final spot available in the Ivy League Tournament. The Tigers play at No. 11 Harvard Saturday at noon.
  • Yale has won seven in a row in the series against Dartmouth.
  • After multiple games in intense heat or pouring rain, Friday's was played in relatively comfortable 60 degree weather with barely a cloud in the sky.
