Yale’s Strong Run at ITA Super Regionals Ends

Dean/Gogineni fall in semis, Injury forces Gogineni to retire in singles quarters

Vignesh Gogineni
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Yale men's tennis team had a strong run at the ITA Super Regionals. The doubles team of Theo Dean and Vignesh Gogineni advanced all the way to the semifinals before falling 6-2, 6-3 to Princeton's Paul Inchauspe and Top Nidunjianzan, the No. 3 seed.

In singles, Gogineni suffered an unlucky break in his quarterfinal match on Sunday. He took the first set 6-3 against Harvard's Cooper Williams, the No. 6 seed. The second set was tied 3-3 when Gogineni injured his ankle. Williams won the final three games of the set, and Gogineni was forced to retire after one point of the third set.

Gogineni had won two matches to advance to the quarters.

In the consolation singles on Sunday, Eric Li posted a victory, while Aidan Reilly and Jim Ji were both defeated.

The Bulldogs will split up for the final weekend of fall play, competing both at the Georgia Tech and Yale Invitationals on Nov. 3-5.
