NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sean Guyton, who picked off a pair of passes in Yale's 31-24 victory at Dartmouth on Saturday, has been named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week.
Both interceptions were key plays in the win. Guyton returned the first 70 yards for a touchdown late in the first quarter which tied score at 7-7. The second, with less than three minutes to play in the fourth quarter, thwarted Dartmouth's final drive and sealed the victory.
The 70-yard interception return was the 10th longest in school history.
Guyton, who was back in the lineup after missing the first three games of the season due to injury, also was in on three tackles, including one for a loss.
In addition, two Bulldogs were named to the weekly honor roll –
Ryan Lindley, who caught the game-winning touchdown pass midway through the fourth quarter and finished with 128 receiving yards, and
Joseph Vaughn, who made a team-high 15 tackles, including 11 solo stops.
This is the second consecutive week Yale has earned an Ivy honor. Quarterback
Nolan Grooms was the Offensive Player of the Week following a 45-3 victory over Morgan State in the NAACP Harmony Classic on Sept. 30.
The Bulldogs are back in Yale Bowl, Class of 1954 Field this Saturday, hosting Sacred Heart at noon.
