Men's Fencing Begins 2023-24 Campaign With Dominant Performance at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Yale men's fencing team opened up its 2023-24 campaign with a dominant performance at the Vassar Open Invitational on Sunday.

The Bulldogs went undefeated in eight matches including a 24-3 rout over Hunter. Throughout the day, Yale was most effective in the saber competitions, recording an incredible combined record of 62-10 in the event.

While most of the matchups were won easily by the Elis, in the seventh round the Bulldogs met their toughest opponent of the day, Haverford. Although Yale narrowly dropped the epee, the team was able to edge out a victory in the foil and saber to win 15-12.

The Bulldogs entered the season ranked No. 11 in the Division I pre-season coaches' poll, but did not face any ranked opponents in their division in Sunday's event. They did, however, match up with three teams ranked in the Division III coaches' poll. Yale downed No. 2 Johns Hopkins, No. 5 Stevens, and No. 6 Vassar en route to a perfect day.

Yale will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Brandeis Invitational.
