Last Game
Yale (2-10, 0-0 Ivy League) fell to St. John's 75-56 at Lee Amphitheater Dec. 21. The Bulldogs started strong – their 23 points in the first quarter represented just the fifth time this season the Red Storm had allowed an opponent to score that many points in a quarter. But St. John's put together an 11-0 run in the second quarter to take the lead, and never looked back. Senior forward
Brenna McDonald (Natick, Mass.) finished with a career-high 16 points, adding eight rebounds.
Hot Shooting
Yale's .471 field goal percentage against St. John's Dec. 21 was the Bulldogs' best in a game since shooting .483 in a 71-70 overtime win at Harvard Jan. 7, 2023. The Bulldogs' .889 free throw shooting percentage against St John's was their best in a game (minimum eight attempts) since going 9-for-10 (.900) in a 48-33 win at Dartmouth Feb. 4, 2022.
Bulldogs Among the Best on the Offensive Boards
Yale is second in the Ivy League and 61st in the nation in offensive rebounding, averaging 14.1 offensive boards per game.
Clark Among Ivy and National Leaders
Senior point guard
Jenna Clark (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Yale's captain, is among the NCAA top 12 and/or Ivy League top four in multiple categories:
- 36.97 minutes per game – 1st in Ivy League, seventh nationally
- 6.5 assists per game – 1st in Ivy League, 13th nationally
- 78 assists – 1st in Ivy League, 12th nationally
- 2.05 assist/turnover ratio – 1st in Ivy League
- 178 field goal attempts – 2nd in Ivy League
- 76 three-point attempts – 4th in Ivy League
- 181 points – 3rd in Ivy League
Clark has led the Ivy League in assists for the last two years.
Home for the Holidays
Yale is in the midst of a stretch of 30 straight days without a road game. The Bulldogs last played on the road Dec. 6 at Stony Brook, and next play on the road Jan. 6 when they start Ivy League play at Harvard.
Unfortunate Coincidence
Both of Yale's upcoming opponents are playing without their leading scorers. Quinnipiac announced on Dec. 19 that guard Jackie Grisdale would miss the rest of the season with an injury. Grisdale, a junior who last played on Dec. 10, leads the Bobcats in scoring with an average of 14.1 points per game. On Jan. 6 Yale visits Harvard. On Dec. 11 the Crimson announced that guard Harmoni Turner is out indefinitely with an injury. Prior to the injury, which occurred in the game against Michigan Dec. 2, Turner was one of just four players in the country averaging at least 22 points, five rebounds and five assists per game. Her current scoring average of 20.6 points per game is 5.1 more points per game than any other Harvard player.
Scouting Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac (4-5, 1-0 MAAC), is coming off a 60-57 win at Rider in the MAAC opener Dec. 18 thanks to a buzzer-beating three from forward Grace LaBarge. The Bobcats' roster features seven first years, including 6-foot-3 forward/center Anna Foley, who leads the team in rebounding (6.3 rebounds per game) and is second on the team in scoring (12.1 points per game).
