HANOVER, N.H. -- The Yale women's track and field team started off strong on the first day of the Ivy League Indoor Track and Field Championships in Hanover, N.H., Saturday. With a competitive atmosphere like no other, the meet has provided a great opportunity to be aggressive and take chances. Most races Saturday, aside from field events and the 3000m run, were preliminary races with finals Sunday. Qualifying varied by event. With a fresh blanket of snow outside, New Hampshire is looking beautiful for the meet this weekend.
The races started off strong on the track with junior Kyra Pretre and first year Linde Fonville qualifying for the mile final Sunday after running 4:52.63 and 4:53.37 respectively. In the 400m prelim, senior captain Aliya Boshnak snagged the final spot into the final with a 56.98 performance. Junior Sydney McCord nearly made it, running 57.82 for 11th overall. In the 800m prelim, senior Samantha Friborg easily qualified for Sunday's final with a second-place performance in her heat, running 2:10.17. In the 3000m run, first year Claire Archer nearly missed scoring with a seventh-place finish in 9:47.42. As just a first year, there is great excitement about what she will be able to achieve in her later years at Yale.
The Bulldogs will return to Leverone Field House Sunday to compete in the finals of Saturday's events, relays, the weight throw, the high jump, the triple jump and the 5k. The full schedule, link to buy tickets, link to the ESPN+ stream and live results can be found on the Ivy League website.
