BOSTON – The Yale men's track and field team continues to move from strength to strength, after posting a host of impressive performances at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday.
After two tri-meets against Ivy League rivals to open the 2023 season, this was the the third consecutive weekend of competition for the Bulldogs. The Boston University track, notorious for being conducive to fast racing -- particularly after new American 3000m and 5000m records were set there just last week -- represented a great opportunity for athletes to shave some seconds off their season's bests. While a large portion of the Yale team stayed in New Haven to log an additional weekend of training, those who toed the line in Boston were hungry to capitalize on the opportunity.
Sophomore James Grindle did just that, opening his day with a solid 7.16 60m clocking before dipping under 22 seconds over 200m for the first time this season (21.97). First years Mason Evans and Andrew Farr also impressed, running 7.15 and 22.21 for their respective 60m and 200m events. Just behind Grindle was junior Aaron Miller, whose first 200m of the season resulted in a promising 22.13 effort, and senior Jeamy Williams, who ran a 22.40 PR. Elsewhere, junior Simon Jupp opened his season with a 50.33 clocking over 400m and first year Jake Sun threw a stunning 16.95m PR in the weight throw.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a return to Boston next weekend for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, where they'll look to continue to re-write their season's best times and gain valuable experience with the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships just three weeks away.
