SAN FRANCISCO – Bryant Reese and
Reid Easterly combined on a four-hitter to help the Bulldogs earn a doubleheader split against the University of San Francisco on Saturday at Benedetti Diamond.
Reese allowed one run over the first 4.1 innings, struck out six and earned the first victory of his collegiate career. Easterly came on in the fifth, went the rest of the way and did not allow a run to earn the save in a 3-1 victory in game one.
The Dons scored a run in the eighth to break a tie and earn a 4-3 victory in game two. The two teams will play a single game tomorrow at 3 p.m. Eastern Time.
In game one,
Jimmy Chatfield singled home
AJ Gaich in the first. Chatfield also walked three times in game two to extend his on-base streak to 46 games.
Later in the inning,
Jeff Pierantoni executed a bunt with runners on the corners to score Chatifeld from third and give Yale a 2-0 lead.
Jake Williams, who had four hits on the day, doubled home
Carson Swank in the seventh to give the Bulldogs an insurance run. Easterly finished strong and retired the side in order to close out the game in the ninth.
In game two,
Ethan Lewis came on in the second to help Yale escape a bases loaded jam.
Josh Richardson came on in the third and kept the Dons scoreless for 2.2 innings.
The Bulldogs (4-4) rallied to take the lead in the fifth.
Ben Metzner doubled home Williams and
Davis Hanson to tie the game at 2-2. Pierantoni followed later in the frame to single home Metzner to give Yale the lead.
The Dons (7-4) scored once in the sixth and again in the eighth to retake the lead.
