WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Bulldogs dropped a doubleheader from Columbia on Saturday with two one-run losses. The Lions took game one 1-0, and held on to win game two 3-2.
The Bulldogs received solid pitching throughout the day. In game two,
Colton Shaw tossed a complete game and allowed two unearned runs, four hits and struck out six.
Yale scored its in two runs in game two on run-scoring hits.
Beck Milner got Yale on the board and tied the game in the second with a RBI double to score
Tommy Martin.
Columbia got two back in the third.
Jeff Pierantoni, who had two hits in game two, singled home
Jimmy Chatfield in the fifth.
Davis Hanson had two hits in both games today and kept his Ivy League batting average over .400.
In game one,
Daniel Cohen started for the Bulldogs and allowed one unearned run that proved to the difference. Cohen's final line was six strikeouts, four hits and two walks over 5 and 1/3 innings.
Columbia scored the lone run of the game on a passed ball in the fourth.
Yale had runners in scoring position in both the eighth and ninth. The Bulldogs put the first two batters on base in the eighth and eventually loaded the bases but could not push across a run.
Chatfield, who threw out a runner from center attempting to advance to third to end the eighth, doubled in the ninth to get the tying run in scoring position.
Team captain
Carson Swank had three hits for the Bulldogs.
Alec Atkinson,
Ben Metzner and
Jake Williams also had hits for Yale in game one.
Josh Richardson came on in the sixth for the Bulldogs and did not allow a run the rest of the way.
The two teams play the final game of the series tomorrow beginning at noon.
