WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Ben Metzner delivered the go-ahead run-scoring hit in the eighth to lift the Bulldogs to a 7-6 victory over Princeton at Bush Field on Monday afternoon.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 9-9 in Ivy play and 15-21 overall. Yale has three games left in the Ivy League regular season -- a three-game series at Harvard.
Jimmy Chatfield (1-2) pitched the final 2.1 innings and did not allow a run to earn his first win of the season.
Reid Easterly started and went the first five and allowed three runs (one earned) with eight strikeouts.
Carson Swank (two hits today) started the eighth-inning rally with a leadoff infield single and advanced on a sac bunt from
Jeff Pierantoni. Metzner followed with a single to center to give the Bulldogs the lead.
AJ Gaich and Pierantoni both had two hits. Gaich went 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Yale got on the board first and took an early 3-0 lead.
Jake Williams scored in the first on a passed ball.
Gaich scored on an error in the third. Later in the inning,
Davis Hanson singled to score
Jimmy Chatfield.
In the fourth, Gaich doubled to score Metzner and Pierantoni to give Yale a 5-3 lead. Hanson scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to make it 6-3.
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow to play at Sacred Heart in Bridgeport, Conn. After tomorrow's game, Yale is scheduled to be off until May 13.
