Danny Wolf won't soon forget his experience at the FIBA Under-20 European Championships in Heraklion, Greece, over the last two weeks. Wolf helped lead Team Israel all the way to the championship game by averaging 17.7 points, which was second in the tournament, and 12.0 rebounds, which led the tournament.
Â
Israel fell to France 89-79 in Sunday's final, but that was only a small disappointment in an otherwise remarkably memorable trip.
Â
"This was one of the greatest experiences of my life," said Wolf, who was eligible to play due to his Jewish background. "To be able to represent something far greater than any player, coach or team was something I never imagined and could only dream of. I learned so much about myself as a person and a player, and I am extremely grateful for the experience."
Â
Israel won its first six games in the tournament, including a 59-52 victory over defending champion Spain in the preliminary round. Wolf scored a tournament-high 24 points in a win over Belgium and scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the championship game against France. He finished with five double-doubles and was named to the tournament's All-Star Five following Sunday's game.
Â
Wolf enjoyed a strong first year with the Bulldogs last winter, earning the team's John C. Cobb Award as rookie of the year after appearing in 21 games. In the victory at Brown that earned the Bulldogs a share of the Ivy regular season title, Wolf scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in 10 minutes.
Â
Leading up to the tournament, Wolf was featured in a story in the
Jerusalem Post, and following his strong performance was selected as a
Standout Player that Impressed at #FIBA20Europe.
