Yang, Winkler Score as Bulldogs Take Down Seton Hall

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A Thursday night under the lights proved to be an exciting one as the Yale women's soccer team took down Seton Hall, 2-1, at Reese Stadium. The win puts the Bulldogs at 3-1-1 on the season, while the Pirates fell to 3-3-1.

"Tonight's win was a fun one," said Sarah Martinez, Loring Family Head Coach. "Seton Hall came out physical and gritty, and I thought we did well to move them around, especially in the first half. We talk a lot about needing to earn all of our results and tonight was no different."

Scoring Summary
  • 20' | Anita Thorvaldsdottir charged into the attacking third but was checked off the ball just outside the box, earning a free kick for the Bulldogs. Off the set piece, Nana Yang unleashed a left-footed missile.
  • 44' | Yale made it a two-goal lead after Ellery Winkler spun off a defender and put a shot on goal that sailed into the back of the net.
  • 58' | Seton Hall found the scoresheet to cut the Bulldogs' lead in half.
  • FT | The Bulldogs' stingy defense held the Pirates to just three second-half shots to secure the home victory.
Notes
  • Marisa Shorrock made two saves in the victory.
  • Nana Yang scored her second goal of the season and her third career goal. She has goals in back-to-back games.
  • Ellery Winkler notched her first goal of the season and the 12 of her career.
  • The Bulldogs outshot the Pirates 14 to six and finished with four corners to Seton Hall's two.
