HANOVER, N.H. – The Yale field hockey team continued its dominant defensive play Friday afternoon at Chase Field, blanking Dartmouth 4-0. This was Yale's third shutout of the season, and the Bulldogs have allowed only one goal in their last three games.
Yale improves to 9-4 overall (3-2 in the Ivy League), while Dartmouth falls to 3-9 overall (0-5 in the Ivy League).
Summary
- A lopsided first quarter saw Yale outshoot Dartmouth 7-0. The Bulldogs went ahead 1-0 at 8:22 when Chiara Picciafuoco drove in along the baseline from the right side and fired in her fifth goal of the year.
- The Bulldogs scored on their only two shots of the second quarter. One came when Lauren Venter deflected in a pass from Picciafuoco at 22:08. The other came when Ymre Massee snuck a shot past Dartmouth goalkeeper Ava Carlson at 26:50.
- Picciafuoco put the game out of reach with a goal at 49:06 of the fourth. She drove into the circle and squared up to drive her second goal of the game past Carlson.
- Carlson finished with nine saves, and the Big Green also got a defensive save from Ella Bowman.
Notes
- The last time Yale had three shutouts in a season was 2021.
- This was the first time since Sept. 9, 2022 (a 1-0 win vs. Sacred Heart) that Yale went an entire game without allowing a shot on goal.
- The 21-1 shot advantage marked the fourth time this season Yale has outshot an opponent by 12 or more. It was the Bulldogs' largest shot advantage since outshooting Sacred Heart 29-3 in a 5-1 win Sept. 20.
- Yale has now won the last eight in the series with Dartmouth. This was the Bulldogs' largest margin of victory against the Big Green since a 4-0 win in 2021.
- Yale is now 5-3 in road games. If the Bulldogs reach the six-win mark in road games, that would be the first time they have accomplished that since 1998.
- Picciafuoco's big day has created a logjam at the top of Yale's goal leaderboard, where she, Venter and Poppy Beales all have six.
- The Bulldogs are now one win away from reaching double digit wins for the season. The last time they accomplished that was 2018 (10-7). The school record for wins is 15, set in 1998.
- The Bulldogs are tied for third in the Ivy League standings with Brown, as both teams are 3-2 in league play. Penn, which hosts Cornell Saturday, is in fifth place at 2-2.
