CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Eight victories across singles and doubles action highlighted day two for the Yale University men's tennis team at the ITA New England Regional.
Singles Results
- Renaud Lefevre was defeated by Brown's Alex Finkelstein in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. His next opponent is Hikaru Takeda in the consolation bracket.
- Jason Shuler earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Clemente Mainguy of Buffalo. He will face Radu Papoe in his next match.
- Eric Li captured a 6-3, 6-4 win over Harvard's Elisha Thornton. Next up is Alex Knox-Jones of Dartmouth on Saturday.
- Edward Liao made quick work of Quinnipiac's Carlos Braun Simo, 6-0, 6-2. That win earns him a match with Otakar Ungerman of Bryant next.
- Vignesh Gogineni advanced with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Niagara's Tanner Bedard. His next opponent is Harvard's Mitchell Lee.
- Dylan Tsoi lost to Cheng Tang of Buffalo in three sets. Tsoi won the first set, 6-4, but Tang rallied to take the next two by scores of 6-2, 6-2. Next up is Brown's Noah Hernandez in the consolation field.
- Krish Gupta prevailed in three sets of James Macdonald of Harvard, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. He takes on Daniel Velek of Quinnipiac next.
- Jim Ji cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Merrimack's Henrik Lindeman. Ji will face Adit Sinha of Cornell next.
- Walker Oberg lost to Yujiro Onuma of Dartmouth, 3-6, 6-7 (5-7). He will go up against Ezequiel de la Plaza of Holy Cross in the consolation bracket.
Doubles Results
- Oberg and Luke Neal captured an 8-4 win over Benjamin Graham and Mikey Weitz of Colgate. They will face Brown's Finklestein and Alexander Bravo next.
- Gupta and Tsoi cruised to an 8-1 win over the duo of Sacred Heart's Antoine Hernandez and Charlie Levinson. They advance to play Peter Benjamin Privara and Masato Perera of Harvard.
- Liao and Ji dropped an 8-5 decision to Oscar Martinez and Dylan Breen of Siena.
- Gogineni and Shuler were edged in a thriller by Caleb Saltz and Liam O'Leary of Boston College, 8-7 (7-4).
- Lefevre and Li were also tipped in a tightly contested affair, 8-7 (7-5), by Boston College's Andrew Ilie and Matthew Overvelde.
The Bulldogs return to action for day three of the ITA New England Regional on Saturday morning.
