CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Three members of the Yale University men's tennis team -
Eric Li,
Krish Gupta and
Vignesh Gogineni - have moved on to the quarterfinal round of singles action at the ITA New England Regional.
In addition, the tandem of Gupta and
Dylan Tsoi remains in the mix in the main doubles draw heading into Sunday.
Singles Results
- Gupta collected a 7-5, 6-1 win over Daniel Velek of Quinnipiac. He followed with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) triumph over Valdemar Pape of Harvard. Gupta's next opponent is Peter Benjamin Privara of Harvard on Sunday.
- Li took down Alex Knox-Jones of Dartmouth in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. That win set up an all-Yale affair, with Li defeating Edward Liao 7-5, 6-1. Li will now face Papoe on Sunday.
- Gogineni picked up a pair of singles wins on Saturday. First, he defeated Harvard's Mitchell Lee, 6-4, 6-1 and followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Eric Verdes of Cornell. Gogineni will face Cornell's Nathan Mao next.
- Liao won his first match of the day over Otakar Ungerman of Bryant, 6-2, 6-2.
- Jason Shuler was defeated by Cornell's Radu Papoe, 6-1, 7-5.
- Jim Ji was defeated by Adit Sinha of Cornell, 6-4, 7-5.
- Tsoi lost in three sets to Brown's Noah Hernandez in the consolation field. Hernandez opened with a 7-6 (7-4) win before Tsoi came back to even it up with a 6-1 win. Hernandez was able to advance by taking the third set 10-4.
- Renaud Lefevre lost to Dartmouth's Hikaru Takeda in the consolation bracket, 6-3, 6-4.
- Walker Oberg defeated Matthew Overvelde of Boston College, 6-4, 6-2 in the consolation bracket. His next opponent is Danilis Snaiders of Buffalo.
Doubles Results
- Gupta and Dylan Tsoi advanced with an 8-6 win over Peter Benjamin Privara and Masato Perera of Harvard. They will face Lukas Phimvongsa and Noah Hernandez of Brown on Sunday.
- Oberg and Luke Neal were edged by Brown's Alex Finklestein and Alexander Bravo, 8-7 (7-4).
The Bulldogs return to action for day four of the ITA New England Regional on Sunday morning.
