NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Despite a hard-fought effort and a frenzied attempt to keep its postseason hopes alive, the Yale men's soccer team fell to No. 19 Penn 1-0 on Saturday evening at Reese Stadium. The Bulldogs really put the pressure on the Quakers down the stretch, earning five corner kicks within the last 15 minutes, but Connor Dawson's goal in the 59
th minute was the difference in the game.
With the win, Penn clinched at least a share of the Ivy League title and improved to 12-2-1 with an undefeated conference mark of 6-0. Yale dropped to 4-10-1 with an Ivy League record of 1-5.
How it Happened
- 18' | The Bulldogs nearly got on the scoreboard after Quanah Brayboy fired a shot. But the attempt hit off the crossbar and bounced back into play. A follow up shot from Teague McCammon was saved by Penn keeper Phillip Falcon III.
- 27' | Once again, the Bulldogs nearly took the lead on a great shot attempt from Jonathan Seidman. But once again, the ball caromed off the crossbar.
- 59' | Off a corner kick, Connor Dawson scored on a header to put Penn on the scoreboard. 1-0 Penn
- 75' | Yale nearly tied the game on a strike by McCammon. Improbably, the attempt found the crossbar for the third time for the Bulldogs.
