Bulldogs Battle to Tie with No. 6 Cornell; Take Shootout Win

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Yale men's hockey team played to a 2-2 tie against No. 6 Cornell at Lynah Rink. In the shootout, the Bulldogs picked up the extra points in the standings thanks to first year Hughie Hooker who buried his opportunity on Yale's second attempt. Yale moved to 0-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the ECAC, while Cornell moved to 2-0-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference.

  • P1, 00:08 | Cornell opened the scoring right off the opening face-off.
  • P1, 11:59 | On the powerplay, Zach Wagnon found Donovon Frias camped out on the doorstep to tie it up.
  • P2, 8:47 | In a nearly identical setup from the first goal, Wagnon found Frias in front once again on the powerplay to give Yale the lead.
  • P2, 13:18 | Cornell's Jack O'Leary tied it up.
  • Shootout | After a scoreless third and overtime period, the two sides went into a shootout to determine standings points. Hughie Hooker was the lone scorer as he rifled a shot past Cornell's netminder Ian Shane.

Notes
  • Jack Stark had a solid performance, making a season-high 31 stops between the pipes.
  • Donovan Frias picked up his first two collegiate goals – and first collegiate points.
  • Zach Wagnon, who recorded his first collegiate assist against Denver on Nov. 2, picked up his first multi-point game. He now has three assists in three games.
  • William Dineen was productive in the face-off dot, winning 52-percent of his draws.
  • Tonight's tie is the first time Yale and Cornell have played back-to-back ties since Feb. 11, 2017 (2-2) and Jan. 12, 2018 (3-3).
