FULLERTON, Calif. – The Yale softball team fell to Grand Canyon University, 10-7, in extra innings, and 1-0 to California State Fullerton, 1-0, to cap its stint on the West Coast. Yale's record moved to 2-12 on the year, while Grand Canyon improved to 19-5 and Fullerton improved to 14-10.
Game 1: Grand Canyon 10, Yale 7 – (9 innings)
- After two scoreless innings, Grand Canyon found the scoresheet, scoring on a home run to left center.
- With runs in the fourth and the fifth, the Antelopes extended its lead to five runs.
- Yale found a groove in the bottom of the fifth with two back-to-back at bats that earned baserunners. Then two, two-out singles gave the Bulldogs their first two runs of the game.
- Sixth inning action saw Grand Canyon respond, scoring again and extending its lead to four.
- The Bulldog came alive in the bottom of the seventh. Katie Donahey worked the count, earning her second walk of the day, while Isabella Fortini reached on a single through the left side. With two on, Libby Peoples loaded the bases with a walk, making room for Sophie Woodridge. On a 3-2 count, Woodridge ripped a grand slam to left center that tied the game and forced extra innings.
- Eighth inning action was equally as entertaining as both teams found a seventh run to force a ninth inning.
- The Antelopes offense inched forward with three runs before shutting the Bulldogs down in the bottom half of the inning to secure the victory.
Game 2: Cal State Fullerton 1, Yale 0
- The only run of the came as Fullerton scored on a throwing error.
- Emma Taylor tossed the complete game with a 0.00 ERA, six strikeouts in 20 batters faced.
