NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale baseball team picked up its first home win of the season with a 6-1 triumph over Quinnipiac on Wednesday afternoon at Bush Field.
Davis Hanson hit a first-inning homer and
Josh Richardson pitched 5.2 innings of shutout ball to lead the Bulldogs to the non-conference victory.
Yale improved to 3-11 overall while the Bobcats fell to 5-12 this season.
How it Happened
- Bottom 1st | Hanson crushed a homer to left to put the Bulldogs on the board early. Following a single by Jake Williams, teammate Alec Atkinson brought him home with a single of his own. Yale led 2-0 after the opening frame.
- Bottom 2nd | The Bulldogs tallied a pair of runs on sac flies by Hanson and Williams.
- Bottom 3rd | Catcher Max Imhoff singled home Chris DiPrima to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 5-0.
- Top 4th | The Bobcats scored their lone run of the game on a sac fly from Jared Zimbardo.
- Top 6th | Quinnipiac threatened to rally, but Richardson punched out Dominick Proctor and Max Imhoff threw out Kyle Garbowski for a beautiful double play.
- Top 7th | Richardson continued his fantastic game on the mound with a pickoff of a Quinnipiac runner.
- Bottom 8th | The Bulldogs tallied their final run on a perfectly executed squeeze play. After Hayden Sobecki stole second and third, Alec Atkinson stepped up to the plate. Sobecki once again took off toward home, and Atkinson dropped down a perfect bunt in front of the Bobcats pitcher. As Sobecki scored easily, Atkinson made it to first on a single with no throw.Â
