Bulldogs Take Game One of Weekend Series Against Brown

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale softball squad defeated Brown in game one of its three-game series, 6-4. The Bulldogs improved to 7-17 overall and 4-0 in the Ivy League, while the Bears 5-9 overall and 0-1 in the Ivy.
 
Scoring Summary
  • T3 | After two scoreless innings where both sides combined for just one hit, Brown got on the board. The Bears scored four runs on five hits, with a quartet of singles and a double leading the way.
  • B3 | Yale counterattacked immediately in the bottom half of the inning. After going down two outs in the first two batters, SJ Mull reached on an error. After Mull stole second, Isabella Fortini knocked a double to center field. Carolyn Skotz ripped a single through the right side to score Fortini from second, and then found her own way around the horn, scoring on an error by the right fielder. Skotz's run put Yale within one.
  • B4 | With a 2-1 count, Willa Ferrer picked up the game-tying homer to right center for the Bulldogs. 
  • B6 | It was the Bulldogs again who answered the call. With runners on first and second and two outs, Sam Goodcase doubled to center field and scored both runners to give Yale a two-run lead late.
  • T7 | Yale's Hannah Turner tossed an eight-pitch seventh inning, allowing just one hit, and shut down the Bears' offense.

  • Hannah Turner picked up her first win of the season in the circle.
  • Sam Goodcase went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
  • Isabella Fortini went 1-for-2 with a double, a run, a walk, and two stolen bases.
  • Willa Ferrer notched her third home run of the season and the 10th of her career.

The Bulldogs and Bears will square off once again for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 24 at 5K Corral Field. First pitch is slated for 12:30 pm.
