Bulldogs Open Outdoor Season at Knights Invite

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Yale women's track and field team built off the past week's training in Florida, opening the outdoor season Friday at UCF's Knights Invite in Orlando, Fla. The Bulldogs set personal records in both the hammer throw and the 1500m.
 
The Bulldogs:
  • In the hammer, senior Maria Leskovec threw a PR of 51.55m, the eighth-farthest mark of the day, carrying momentum from her indoor season. Junior Makayla Harris also set a PR in the event by over eight meters, throwing the hammer 48.33m.
  • The 200m showcased Yale's depth in the shorter sprints. First year Sophie Spokes, who ran the event in 25.31 seconds, led a total of five athletes from Yale to finish in under 26 seconds.
  • The 1500m brought more exciting performances. Sophomore Linde Fonville set a PR and finished fourth overall, crossing the line in a time of 4:27.07. Sophomore Ruby Barton also dipped below the five-minute mark for the first time, finishing in 4:55.20.

Competition concludes Saturday. Look out for solid performances in events that are specific to the outdoor season, such as the discus throw and the 100m hurdles.
