RALEIGH, N.C. – At NC State's Raleigh Relays Friday night, a contingent of Yale women's distance runners opened their outdoor season in the 5k. The trio, consisting of seniors
Kyra Pretre and
Kathryn Rodrigues as well as sophomore
Charlotte Whitehurst, all competed in different heats of the event. Although this seeding got in the way of the three working together during the race, their hard work in training still clearly paid off.
Whitehurst dipped below 17 minutes for the first time, setting a new personal record by almost 10 seconds and finishing in a time of 16:56.07. Pretre also went sub-17, completing the event in 16:55.67. Rodrigues crossed the finish line in 17:43.85.
Up next, other athletes on the Yale women's track and field team will head to UConn to compete in the UConn Dog Fight Invite on Saturday. This meet will provide a good opportunity for the sprinters, jumpers and throwers to compete.
