Bulldogs Fall to Stonehill in Non-Conference Contest

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup to Stonehill on Tuesday afternoon at Bush Field. The Skyhawks topped the Bulldogs 7-1 thanks to a strong performance from their pitching staff.

With the win, Stonehill improves to 12-21 overall. The Bulldogs drop to 13-20 and the loss snaps a four-game winning streak against non-conference opponents. 

How it Happened
  • Top 1st | Stonehill picked up two runs in the first.
  • Top 2nd | The Skyhawks loaded the bases with no outs, but only managed to get one run out of the inning to lead 3-0.
  • Bottom 3rd | The Bulldogs got on the board with an RBI single by Davis Hanson to cut the Stonehill lead to 3-1.
  • Top 4th | Stonehill got a run back on an RBI single by Aidan Sengenberger.
  • Top 7th | The Skyhawks added two more to increase the lead to 6-1.
  • Top 9th | Stonehill finished off the victory with two more insurance runs in the top half of the ninth.
Game Notes
  • Tuesday's matchup marked the first time that Yale and Stonehill have faced off against each other.
  • Chace Chaplin started on the mound for the Bulldogs and earned the loss after allowing three runs in one inning pitched.
  • Ethan Lewis was particularly effective in relief, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings.
  • Stonehill starting pitcher Jimmy Gilleran was outstanding, only allowing one run run and four hits through seven innings pitched.
  • Hanson picked up his team-leading 27th RBI of the season.
  • Alec Atkinson, Max Imhoff, and Hanson all picked up two hits each for the Bulldogs.
