Bulldogs Cap Regular Season with Dominant Win Over Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. – In its regular season finale, the Yale softball team finished in dominant fashion with an 11-2 victory over Columbia in five innings. The Bulldogs cap the regular season with a 20-24 overall record and a 14-7 record in the conference, while the Lions, who have one more weekend, are 15-22 and 9-9 in the Ivy.

How it Happened
  • Yale had a powerful first inning, bouncing back from a game one loss yesterday that saw them scrape together three hits and no runs against Columbia pitcher Rocky Reyes.
  • T1 | Carolyn Skotz and Sophie Woodridge led off with back-to-back singles to start. NYC's finest, Willa Ferrer, doubled to center to score Skotz. In the very next at bat, Lauren Perren popped a double to left center, bringing around two more runs. With runners on the corners, Perren stole home for the fourth run. Yale capped the inning after scoring on a ground out.
  • B3 | Columbia found the scoresheet scoring on a sacrifice fly.
  • T4 | Four-straight bases loaded walks gave Yale an eight-run lead. They capped the inning with their fifth run on a wild pitch.
  • T5 | Woodridge scored on the tag for the 11th run for the kids in the pins.
  • B5 | The Lions grabbed a second run with a single up the middle cutting Yale's lead to nine.
  • Meredith Henderson pitched a complete game with two strikeouts en route to the win.
Notes
  • With five steals in today's game, the Bulldogs reached 53 for the season. The last time Yale had 50 stolen bases in a season was in 2004 when they had 58.
  • The Bulldogs completed the regular season with 20 overall wins marking back-to-back seasons with 20 wins. The last time this feat was accomplished was from 2006-2009 when Yale had four-straight seasons of 20 or more wins.
  • Yale's new program record for single-season conference wins stands at 14 with their season finale win over Columbia.
  • Sophie Woodridge went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and a walk.
  • Hometown kid Willa Ferrer went 2-for-3 with a double, a RBI, and a run.
  • Lauren Perren had a pair of hits including a double with two RBI, a run and a stolen base.
  • Katie Donahey went 2-for-2 with a RBI, a walk, and two stolen bases.
