PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – Yale women's crew took care of its business on the opening day of the Ivy League Championship on the Cooper River. All four Yale crews that raced in the heats easily qualified for the Grand Final. Both the second varsity eight and varsity four won their heats, while the varsity eight and second varsity four finished second.
The second varsity eight cruised to a nearly seven second victory, posting a time of 6:40.523. Penn was second (6:47.193) followed by Harvard-Radcliffe (7:02.488) and Cornell (7:22.996).
The varsity four won by three seconds with a time of 7:14.585. Brown (7:17.582) was second followed by Harvard-Radcliffe (7:39.724) and Dartmouth (7:56.829).
The varsity eight was never in danger of not advancing to the grand final, posting a time of 6:31.617, well ahead of third place Dartmouth (6:40.609) and fourth-place Harvard-Radcliffe (6:47.540). Brown won in 6:27.669.
The second varsity four also easily advanced with a time of 7:32.822. Penn (7:36.245) was third followed by Dartmouth (8:21.765). Brown won in 7:29.869

WHAT'S AT STAKE
The winner of the varsity eight grand final will be crowned the Ivy League champion and awarded the Sally P. Shoemaker Trophy. The Team Trophy will be presented to the team with the highest point total across all boats. The League's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship will be awarded to the team with the most points across the three NCAA boats (V8, 2V8 and V4).
