NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Keith Allain, Malcolm G. Chase Head Coach of Men's Ice Hockey, has announced that rising senior William Dineen has been elected captain for the 2024-25 season.
 
"Will is an excellent choice by our guys to lead us as we move forward as a hockey program," said Allain on Dineen's appointment. "He possesses the qualities that are vital to the role of captain. He has the character to know what is right and wrong and the leadership ability to stand up and speak for what is right. Will has a very strong senior class beside him and I am confident they will work together to take us to the next level."
 
The Lake George native has appeared in 69 games for the Bulldogs over the last three seasons. During that time, he has been one of Yale's top centerman, leading the charge in the dot in all three seasons with a cumulative 52-percent success rate.
 
At the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, Dineen was named with the Malcom G. Chace Award, presented by the Yale Hockey Association to the member of the Yale hockey team who, through sportsmanship, spirit, and ability, has best served the finest traditions of Yale hockey as exemplified by Malcom G. Chace.
 
Off the ice, Dineen is an active volunteer for Spike's K-9 Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization founded by James Hatch, a retired Special Warfare Operator and Yale graduate, aimed to provide life-saving equipment, medical cost assistance, and access to top-notch training to the nation's working K-9's.
 
"To be named captain by my teammates is a huge honor and privilege," said Dineen on his election. "I will take great pride in this responsibility, and I couldn't be more excited about our group moving forward into next season. This team has meant so much to me and I can't wait to continue building upon Yale Hockey's great culture and traditions."
