Elon Abergel (Hibat Tzionm, Israel) of the Yale men's cross country and track and field teams will compete at the Israeli Athletics Championships Wednesday and Thursday at the Hadar Yosef Athletics Stadium in Tel Aviv. Abergel will compete in the 800m run and the 1500m run. In addition to Israeli titles, the Championships will help determine who represents Israel at the Paris Olympics, which take place from July 26 to August 11.

Abergel brings personal bests of 1:51.76 (800m) and 3:44.11 (1500m) into the meet. This past year at Yale he competed in one cross country meet and a track and field meet for the Bulldogs. For his Yale career he has competed at a pair of Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track and Field Championships and a pair of Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He also competed at the 2021 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships.
Abergel was a finalist in the European U23 Championship in the 1500m in 2021. He is a four-time silver medalist in the 800m at the Israeli Championships in the 800m, and earned a gold medal in the 20th Maccabiah Games in the open 800m.

The 1500m competition, with 49 total entrants (16 in heat one, including Abergel) as of Tuesday, takes place on Wednesday evening. Abergel is in the first of three heats. The 800m competition, which includes 13 entrants, takes place on Thursday evening.
