Weekend Includes Visit to Fairfield Friday, Home Opener Sunday

Friday, 4:00 p.m. at Fairfield
Sunday, 1:00 p.m. vs. Brown
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After opening the season with a pair of road wins in Pennsylvania last weekend, the Yale field hockey team is back in Connecticut this weekend. The Bulldogs visit local rival Fairfield Friday (4:00 p.m., Stags Sports Network, Live Stats) and then host Brown Sunday (1:00 p.m., ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats). In addition to being the home opener, Sunday's game is also the Ivy League opener.

LAST WEEKEND
Yale opened the 2024 season with a pair of road wins last weekend. The Bulldogs beat Lehigh 6-1 last Friday and followed up with a 2-1 overtime win at Drexel Sunday.

BARLOW NAMED IVY LEAGUE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior midfielder/forward Ellie Barlow (Great Dunmow, Essex, England), who totaled six points in helping Yale go 2-0 this past weekend, was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon.  Barlow scored one goal in each game, including the game-winner in Friday's 6-1 win at Lehigh. She assisted on the game-winning goal in Sunday's 2-1 overtime win at Drexel. Barlow also had an assist in Friday's game, finishing the weekend with six points (2-2-6) – two more than any other Ivy League player.

FIRST-YEAR PHENOMS
Yale's first-year class has already made an impact, with all six field players having made their debuts. Three first years have started both games so far: Picciafuoco scored the game-winning goal in overtime at Drexel Sunday. She and classmate Ymre Massée (Heteren, Netherlands) are the first two members of the class to score a goal. Baileff and Chang each have assists.

CAN'T STOP STARTING
Senior back Keely Comizio (New Vernon, N.J.), Yale's captain, has the longest active streak of consecutive starts for any player on the team – 47 straight games, dating back to her first career start Sept. 25, 2021.

SCORING STREAK
The longest active point-scoring streak on the team belongs to sophomore back/midfielder Hettie Whittington (Guildford, Surrey, England). She has scored at least one point in four straight games dating back to last season. She has three goals and an assist in that span.

PITTS STOPS
Senior goalkeeper Alexa Pitts (Lancaster, Pa.) has made the most of her first two career starts this year. She has stopped 10 of the 12 shots she has faced, placing her second in the Ivy League in goals-against average (0.944) and third in save percentage (.833).

SCOUTING FAIRFIELD
Fairfield (1-2, 0-0 NEC) has a pair of one-goal losses sandwiched around a 5-0 win vs. Holy Cross. The Stags were picked No. 1 in the NEC preseason poll, and boast the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Year (Madison Milhous), NEC Goalkeeper of the Year (Payton Rahn) and NEC Midfielder of the Year (Agustina Casteluchi). The Stags have beaten Yale by a goal in each of the last three years.

SCOUTING BROWN
Brown (0-2, 0-0 Ivy League), which hosts No. 16 UConn Thursday afternoon, has lost each of its first two games by one goal – including a shootout loss to BU this past Sunday. The Bears went 1-6 in Ivy League games last season, including a 2-1 overtime loss to Yale. The Bulldogs have won six in a row – and 11 of the last 12 – in the series. Brown was picked for seventh in the league's preseason poll.
