Lundstedt Scores First Career Goal; Bulldogs Fall to UConn

STORRS, Conn. – The Yale women's soccer team fell to UConn, 2-1, at Morrone Field in Storrs. The Bulldogs' overall record moved to 3-3 on the season, while the Huskies improved to 5-1-1.

"We have to continue to challenge our group to start games as strong as we finish. Going down two goals in the first half is a tough task for anyone, especially on the road. When we can put together a full 90 minute performance, our results will follow," said Sarah Martinez, Loring Family Head Coach. "I was happy with our second half performance. We could not feel that we were playing down a player for the entirety of the second half, even cutting the lead during that stretch and having multiple chances late to equalize as well."

Scoring Summary
  • 22' | After 21 scoreless minutes where both sides combined for a single shot, the home side found the back of the net.
  • 34' | UConn's Chioma Okafor grabbed her second goal of the game with a header up over the goalkeeper and one-touched the finished.
  • 57' | With Yale down a player due to a red card, a turnover by the Huskies' keeper converted into opportunity for Vienna Lundstedt as she pounced on the misplay and rounded a shot into the right corner to split UConn's lead in half.

Notes
  • Vienna Lundstedt made her first career start for the Bulldogs.
  • Lundstedt also picked up her first collegiate goal.
  • UConn out shot Yale, 9-5, with the Huskies having five on target to the Bulldogs' four.
  • Both sides were level on saves at Yale's Anna Shamgochian picked up three stops in goal.
