Bulldogs Down Cornell to Win Ivy League Opener

Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's soccer team kicked off its Ivy League slate on a high note, downing the Cornell Big Red 1-0 on Saturday evening at Reese Stadium. TJ Presthus converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute to give the Bulldogs three crucial points in the conference standings.

Yale has now won three consecutive matches and improves to 3-4-1 this season. Cornell dropped its first contest of the year, falling to 5-1-2.

"I am really proud of the whole group for a really gutsy performance against a good Cornell team. Everyone was locked in for our preparations and trusted what we needed to do, and they executed," said Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs.

"We have been improving a little bit more each game in different areas and this was another big step, and especially to earn our first shutout of the season in a game like this says a lot about the heart of our group. I thought our mentality and belief coming out of the second half was excellent and felt we were on top of them for the first 30 minutes and certainly earned the goal.  As with any tight game, and especially in conference play, things get hectic in the last few minutes, but our guys stayed disciplined and found a way to get it done. That is who we can be.
