Yale Draws With Harvard 1-1

BOSTON, Mass. – The Yale men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw Saturday night with the Harvard Crimson at Jordan Field in Boston.

With the draw, Yale moved to 2-6-3 overall (1-1-1 Ivy). Harvard moved to 3-4-4 overall (0-2-1 Ivy).

"This was a really strong all-around performance against a quality opponent," said Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "We are making progress and learning how to be the balanced team I know we can be. We are disappointed to concede after going up a goal and we need to continue improving on closing out games without taking as much pressure, but this is normal for a young team and we will keep getting better."

How It Happened
  • 40' | Caleb Layton knocked a loose ball away from the Yale net, preventing a prime Harvard scoring opportunity.
  • 68' | Standing on his own goal line, Sven Meacham headed a Harvard shot away from danger, snuffing out another golden Crimson chance.
  • 74' | YALE GOAL! Simon Adjakple threaded a perfect pass to Angelo Zhu down the middle of the field. Zhu sent a chip shot over the heads of the Harvard defenders to give Yale the lead. Meacham had the secondary assist on the play. 1-0 YALE
  • 79' | Harvard equalized quickly with a shot from Ethan Veghte. 1-1
Game Notes
  • Zhu's goal was his second of the year. He now leads the team in goal scoring.
  • Meacham now has five assists on the season, leading all Bulldogs.
  • Conrad Lee made two saves on the night.
  • Both teams were even in shots on goal with four apiece.
Up Next
"We are looking forward to a little rest and recharge as we prepare for the next game and we look forward to welcoming several alumni back to cheer on the team," Stannard said.

The Bulldogs will return home to play Dartmouth on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m.
