NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Following a big 97-68 season-opening victory at Navy,
Nick Townsend from the Yale men's basketball team was tabbed Ivy League Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Yale's captain had a stellar performance, scoring 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from deep, while adding nine rebounds and five assists. After Navy surged ahead early, Townsend was unconscious, propelling a Bulldog offense that took off, responding with 15 points, all from beyond the arc. The senior accounted for 12 of those points and scored 16 of his total points in the first 11 minutes of the game.
The weekly honor is the first of Townsend's career.
Townsend and the Bulldogs will be back in action at Quinnipiac on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
