ORLANDO, Fla. – The standout doubles pair of
Leena Friedman and
Orly Ogilvy continued their stellar run at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, taking down another ranked opponent, #54 Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz and Gianna Oboniye from Mississippi State, in the Round of 16 in three sets.
With the victory, Friedman and Ogilvy earned All-American honors, marking the first time in program history that a doubles pair has advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals.
"We came out really strong today, very hyped and motivated," said
Rachel Sapir-Kahan, Swensen-McMahon Head Coach of Women's Tennis. "They played a really big game and we did a great job of holding our ground and finding offensive opportunities. We stuck to the game plan and were successful. Looking forward to the great opportunity tomorrow!"
The pair got off to a fast start, taking the first set 6-4. After Mississippi State responded with a win in the second set 6-3, the Bulldogs bounced back with a big 10-6 victory in the third set to seal the match.
