BURLINGTON, Vt. – Riley Fox tallied a team-high 23 points as the Yale basketball team earned its fourth consecutive victory, edging Vermont 77-74 on Sunday afternoon at Patrick Gymnasium.
Fox led a trio of Bulldogs in double figures, shooting 9-of-14 from the field, with 16 of his points coming in the first half.
With the victory, Yale improved to 7-1, and Vermont dropped to 5-4.
Turning Point
After the Catamounts used a 6–0 run to tie the game at 59 with 5:48 remaining,
Nick Townsend answered with a layup to put the Bulldogs back on top. Vermont quickly responded with a three-pointer to take the lead, but
Jordan Brathwaite countered with his second three of the afternoon to restore a two-point Yale advantage (64–62). The Catamounts kept pushing, yet the Bulldogs put together five straight points, capped by a Fox three that made it 73–69 with 1:38 to go. Townsend and
Isaac Celiscar then sealed the win at the free-throw line in the final seconds.
Notable Performances
- Fox tallied 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting.
- Celiscar contributed 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting, went 7-of-8 at the foul line, and added five rebounds and three assists.
- Townsend recorded 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting while grabbing three boards and dishing out four assists.
- Trevor Mullin added nine points on 4-of-8 shooting, along with two assists and two steals.
- Yale shot 54.5% (12-of-22) in the second half.
- The Bulldogs scored 13 points off turnovers, while Vermont had none.

"We played together and stuck in there. Vermont's a really good team. It's really hard to play in this building [Patrick Gymnasium], and we had to do it as a team. Guys came off the bench and gave us great minutes, and just the fact that we were able to stick together and win just makes you feel good about us going forward."
