NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior
Owen Karas (Columbus, Ohio) of the Yale men's cross country team has earned first team All-Ivy League and Academic All-Ivy League recognition. The league announced the honors Wednesday.
Karas earned first team All-Ivy recognition for his third-place finish at the Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships this past Friday in the Bronx. His time of 24:15.8 bested the previous school Heps record for Van Cortlandt Park, set in 1981 by
Andrew Atkeson '83 (24:19.1).
Karas was Yale's top finisher at both races he competed in heading into Heps, placing 10th overall at the Princeton Fall Classic and 15th overall at the Paul Short Run.
A psychology major, Karas has earned multiple academic honors in his career. Last year he was named CSC Academic All-America (second team) and Academic All-District for cross country/track and field. He also was a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete for cross country in 2024.
Last season Karas earned All-Region honors after placing 22nd overall at the NCAA Cross Country Northeast Regional. That was the third time in his career he finished in the top 45 at Regionals.
Karas is a graduate of St. Charles High School.
