fell to Northeastern 75-64 in the season opener Friday night at Lee Amphitheater. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 15 in the second quarter but rallied to take the lead in the third before a 16-0 run by the Huskies at the end of that quarter turned the game back in NU's favor.
Moore Scoring
Sophomore guard
Ciniya Moore (Bradenton, Fla.) led Yale in scoring in the season opener with 20 points. That was one shy of her career high. It included a pair of three-pointers and a 4-for-4 performance at the free throw line.
Captain Capstraw
Senior forward
Kiley Capstraw (West Orange, N.J.) scored 19 points and added four steals and four rebounds in the season opener. That was the most points in a game for her since scoring 21 against UMass Dec. 1, 2023.
Free Throws
Yale hit 10 of 11 free throw attempts on Friday, a .909 percentage. That was the Bulldogs' best free throw percentage in a game (minimum 10 attempts) since hitting 11 of 12 at Dartmouth Jan. 20, 2025.
Scouting Hofstra
Hofstra fell to Miami 83-48 in its season opener Nov. 3. The Pride is coming off a 2024-25 season in which it went 14-16 overall (9-9 CAA). Chloe Sterling (second team) and Emma Von Essen (honorable mention) were preseason All-CAA picks.
Scouting St. John's
St. John's, which plays at Quinnipiac Tuesday night, opened its season with a 68-53 win vs. LeMoyne on Nov. 3 and then fell at Harvard 61-56 this past Friday night. The Red Storm returns six players from last year's squad that recorded a 10-1 mark in non-conference play (16-15 overall). The Johnnies return three of their top five scorers from last season in Jailah Donald (6.1 points per game), Kylie Lavelle (7.7) and Skye Owen (7.7).
