Homecoming for the Captain
Senior forward
Kiley Capstraw (West Orange, N.J.), who was recently
featured in The Next, returns to her home state of New Jersey this weekend. Capstraw was a four-year captain at West Orange High School, where she helped the team win its first Essex County Championship in 2019. She was a McDonald's All-American Games nominee in 2022 and was Super Essex Conference Player of the Year in 2021. Yale's game at Rider on Saturday has a special meaning for the family. Capstraw's mother, Chelsea, played for Rider from 1989 through 1992. As a senior she averaged 10.1 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game, helping the team to a second-place finish in the ECC.
Scouting Bryant
Bryant (7-1, 0-0 America East) just suffered its first loss of the season, falling 62-53 at Providence Sunday. The Bulldogs are fourth in the nation in three-point percentage (.409) and 12th in the nation in field goal percentage (.500). Forward Nia Scott has five double-doubles and ranks 11th nationally in rebounds per game (11.1).
Scouting Rider
Rider (1-5, 0-0 MAAC) has lost five in a row since opening the season with a 65-58 win vs. Lafayette. The Broncs, who play at LIU Tuesday, are in their first season under new head coach Jackie Hartzell. Their roster has no seniors (one graduate student – transfer Kristina Ekofo from NDSU).
