Bulldogs Drop Game One of ECAC Quarterfinals to St. Lawrence in OT

CANTON, N.Y. – The Yale women's ice hockey team came up just short in the opening game of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at Appleton Arena, falling to St. Lawrence 3-2 in overtime. Claire Tyo scored the power-play goal at 14:26 of the extra period to earn the sudden-death victory for the Saints.

With the win, St. Lawrence improved to 20-10-5 overall and took a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-three quarterfinals matchup. Yale dropped to 16-12-3 overall, but will have a chance to even the series on Saturday.

  • P1, 7:26 | Less than two minutes later, the Bulldogs answered back. After Olivia Muhn delivered a stretch pass up ice from the defensive zone, Naomi Boucher, skated into the slot and finished the play with a top-shelf wrister. 1-1

  • P3, 16:15 | On the power play, Yale tied the game on a dazzling display by Stephanie Stainton. The sophomore took the puck near mid-ice, swerved her way through two Saints' defenders, and rocketed a wrist shot off the crossbar and into the back of the net to even the score. 2-2
  • END OF REGULATION | Through 60 minutes of regulation, the two teams played to a 2-2 tie, setting up the sudden-death overtime period.
  • OT, 14:26 | The Bulldogs were assessed three penalties during the extra frame, setting up a five-on-three advantage for the Saints. Tyo's shot was partially saved by Yale goaltender Pia Dukaric, but she couldn't quite corral it, as the game-winner trickled into the net. 3-2 SLU

  • St. Lawrence leads the quarterfinals series 1-0. They extended their win streak over Yale to seven straight games.
  • Boucher netted her fifth goal of the season and third career postseason score.
  • Muhn registered her 11th assist of the season.
  • Stainton scored her sixth goal of the season.
  • Despite the loss, Dukaric was fantastic in net for the Bulldogs. She made a season-high 40 saves and stopped 13 shots in overtime alone.
