Bulldogs Compete on Day Two of Black and Gold Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla.—The Yale men's track and field team was back in action for day two of the Black and Gold Invitational Saturday at UCF. The Elis set numerous PRs and made their mark on Yale's top 10 lists, capping a strong opening weekend to the outdoor season.

  • The discus throw marked the start of day two. Sophomore Nathan Lebowitz placed fourth with his second-round attempt of 51.99 meters. Close behind in seventh was junior Nolan Recker.
  • Junior Brian Di Bassinga fought well against strong competition to record a mark of 15.15 meters, just outside a PR. First year Orion Browne set his best mark of 14.45 meters in his final attempt.
  • Senior Simon Jupp raced the 400 meters. He closed quickly to record a sub 50 second clocking.
  • Junior Owen Karas had a standout performance in the 800 meters. Racing in heat two, he set a new PR of 1:48.30 and moved up to third all-time at Yale. This mark also is currently the fastest in the NCAA this season. First year Max Bishop continued his excellence with a new PR of 1:50.46.
  • The Bulldogs worked well together in the second heat of the 800 meters with the trio of sophomore Brian Gamble, sophomore Amaré Fields and senior Calvin Katz all clocking 1:51.
  • In the 100 meters, senior Cristian Pereira set a massive PR of 10.59 to win his heat and move himself to fifth all-time at Yale. Senior Kit Colson had a solid season opener of 10.76, giving him a solid base to build upon. Junior Mason Evans was just outside a PR with his time of 11.07, placing third in his heat
 
Up Next: 
  • The Bulldogs face a busy second week of outdoor competition. The distance squad will head to the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State Mar. 27-29. This highly competitive meet will give the Bulldogs a chance to run against the best in the nation. Another squad will head to the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by Bryant University Mar. 28-29.
