Bulldogs Complete Sweep of Rice With 7-4 Win

HOUSTON, Texas -- The Yale baseball team completed a three-game sweep over Rice on Sunday afternoon with a 7-4 victory on the road. First year Jack Ohman threw seven strong innings to lead the Bulldogs to their fourth straight win. 

With the victory, Yale improved to 7-3 overall. Rice dropped to 2-13 overall.

Key Performers
  • Ohman earned his first collegiate victory with his second consecutive strong start on the hill for the Bulldogs. The first year threw 7.0 innings without allowing an earned run. He struck out seven and only walked one batter.
  • Ethan Lewis earned his second save, pitching the last two innings for the Bulldogs. Lewis came in with the bases loaded and got out of the jam with limited damage. 
  • Kaiden Dossa went 2-for-5 with a solo shot and three runs scored. 
Scoring Summary
  • Top 1st | The Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the first. Alec Atkinson grounded into a fielder's choice to score the speedy Dossa. Tommy Martin followed up with a beautiful bunt single to score Garrett Larsen. 2-0 YALE
  • Bottom 1st | Rice took the lead on a three-run home run by Blaine Brown. All three runs were unearned. 3-2 RICE
  • Top 2nd | Yale quickly retook the lead on a two-RBI double by Jake Williams. 4-3 YALE
  • Top 7th | Martin drove in his second run of the day with an RBI groundout to extend Yale's lead. 5-3 YALE
  • Top 8th | Max Imhoff and Dossa went back-to-back to grow the Bulldogs' lead to four runs. 7-3 YALE
  • Bottom 8th | The Owls loaded the bases with no one out. The hosts managed to get one run with an infield single, but Lewis got Trey Duffield to pop out and struck out Landon West to end the threat and keep the bases loaded. 7-4 YALE
Game Notes
  • Yale won its fourth consecutive game and earned its second series sweep of the season. The Bulldogs swept Queens in their opening series of the year.
  • Ohman has not allowed an earned run this year in 14.1 innings pitched. He is striking out more than a batter per inning and his WHIP is at 0.77.
  • Williams drove in two runs and leads the team with 11 RBI. He has been red hot to start the season with an OPS of 1.072.
  • Dossa had a great series, going 5-for-16 with four runs scored and three RBI. 
  • Atkinson had a pair of hits and notched his fourth multi-hit game this year. 
  • Imhoff hit his first home run of the season.
