PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The No. 5 Yale women's crew team wrapped up a strong weekend at the Ivy League Championship on Cooper River on Sunday, earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship and capturing the overall team title with 89 points.
The league's NCAA automatic qualifier is determined by the team that earns the highest combined point total across the varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity four races. Yale secured gold medals in both the second varsity eight and varsity four events and claimed silver in the varsity eight for a total of 45 points. Princeton was second with 44 points but won the league title in the varsity eight race.
All Yale crews earned medals, with the Bulldogs also claiming gold in both the third varsity eight and second varsity four, and taking silver in the third varsity four, securing the overall team points title.
Grand Final Results
- The third varsity four kicked off the morning with a second-place finish, posting a time of 7:18.666. Princeton won the event at 7:15.359. Columbia was third (7:19.071), followed by Brown (7:29.437), Cornell (7:40.482), and Dartmouth (7:50.039).
- Stroked by Violet Barletta, Yale's varsity eight finished second with a time of 6:05.066. The Tigers were first (6:01.186), Brown finished third (6:07.861) followed by Dartmouth (6:09.181), Penn (6:12.388) and Harvard (6:14.446).
- The Bulldogs' second varsity eight won their gold medal in a thrilling photo finish, posting a time of 6:06.752. Yale held off a late push by the Tigers, who finished at 6:07.390. Brown was third in 6:12.850 followed by Harvard (6:16.383), Dartmouth (6:24.566), and Penn (6:29.112).
- Yale's varsity four had a strong performance, winning the event at 6:52.868. Brown was second (6:57.904), Princeton was third (7:01.397), and rounding out the field was Harvard (7:09.217), Dartmouth (7:12.181), and Penn (7:14.977).
- Stroked by Tess Peake, the third varsity eight won in a time of 6:24.689. Brown secured second (6:28.031), Princeton was third (6:29.331) followed by Harvard (6:30.069), Columbia (6:35.607) and Penn (6:43.829).
- Yale's second varsity four capped off the weekend with a victory, posting a time of 6:55.015. The Tigers were second (6:58.308), Brown was third (7:05.268), and rounding out the field was Harvard (7:07.615), Columbia (7:18.762), and Penn (7:32.751).
