Bulldogs Earn No. 7 Seed in NCAA Tourney, Will Host First- and Second-Round Games

Yale won the Ivy League Tournament for the second season in a row.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Ivy League Tournament Champion No. 7 Yale women's lacrosse team has earned the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host first- and second-round games at Reese Stadium. The NCAA announced the bracket Sunday night on ESPNU.
 

  • The Bulldogs will open with a first-round game against America East Champion UAlbany Friday at 1:00 p.m.
  • That game will be followed by a first-round game between No. 20 Brown and No. 17 Syracuse Friday at 4:00 p.m.
  • The winners of those games will meet Sunday at 2:00 p.m. to determine who advances to the quarterfinal round.
 
All first- and second-round games of the NCAA Tournament will be streamed on ESPN+. Ticket information is available here.
 
Yale is making back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time in school history. Earlier on Sunday, the Bulldogs won their second straight Ivy League Tournament by beating No. 5 Princeton 17-6 in New Jersey. That was the largest margin of victory ever in an Ivy League Tournament game. Of the other 13 Ivy League Tournament championship games, 12 were decided by four or fewer goals.
 
Yale is 14-3 overall, tied for the second-most wins in school history. The Bulldogs set the record with 17 wins last year.
 
The NCAA Tournament includes 29 teams. The three top overall seeds earn a first-round bye, with the remaining 26 teams playing first-round games at campus sites on Friday May 9. The second round (Sunday May 11) and quarterfinal round (Thursday May 15) take place at campus sites as well.
 
The eight seeded teams are:
  1. North Carolina (ACC)
  2. Boston College (ACC)
  3. Northwestern (Big Ten)
  4. Florida (Big 12)
  5. Virginia (ACC)
  6. Maryland (Big Ten)
  7. Yale (Ivy League)
  8. Johns Hopkins (Big Ten)
 
The semifinals and championship game will be played on Friday May 23 and Sunday May 25 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.
 
Yale's NCAA Tournament History
Yale has made four appearances in the NCAA Tournament in school history, posting a 3-4 record.
  • 1984: Lost vs. UMass 6-5 in OT in first round
  • 2003: Won vs. Syracuse 12-7 in first round; lost at Loyola (Md.) 13-7 in quarterfinals
  • 2007: Lost at Maryland 13-7 in first round
  • 2024: Won vs. Binghamton 17-4 in first round; won vs. Johns Hopkins 9-7 in second round; lost at Syracuse 19-9 in quarterfinals
