NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's lacrosse team had two first-years named to ILWomen's 2025 "Power 100 Incoming Freshman Rankings". The media outlet announced the rankings Wednesday. The top 50 were ranked and the remaining 50 were unranked.
Here is a look at Yale's selections:
- First-year defender Avery Saviano (Severna Park, Md.) was ranked No. 25. A USA Lacrosse All-American, she helped Severna Park High School win a pair of state championships and helped her club team, M&D Black, to a No. 2 national ranking. She is the younger sister of Yale senior defender Bella Saviano (Severna Park, Md.).
- First-year midfielder Whitney Froeb (San Francisco, Calif.) was ranked No. 36. A USA Lacrosse All-American, she has earned multiple invitations to the USA Lacrosse National Combine and was on the USA Select U18 Team in 2023 and 2024. She is a graduate of San Francisco University High School and played for STEPS California.
Yale was the only Ivy League school with more than one top 40 recruit. The newcomers join a Bulldog squad that is enjoying a historic run of success. Yale was ranked No. 5 in the final national polls last year. The Bulldogs have advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals and won the Ivy League Tournament in each of the past two years. In 2024 they secured the first outright Ivy League Championship for the regular season in program history (Yale shared the Ivy title in 1980 and 2003). The Bulldogs' 17 overall wins in 2024 were a school record, and last year's win total (16) ranks second.
This year's two Power 100 selections join the five Bulldogs who were chosen for this list two years ago and the three Bulldogs who were chosen for this list last year to give Yale more Power 100 selections in the last three years than any other Ivy League team.
