BURLINGTON, Vt. – Paced by
JoJo DeNegri's first collegiate goal, the Yale women's soccer team kicked off its 2025 season with a 1-0 victory over Vermont at Virtue Field on Friday evening. DeNegri's strike lifted the Bulldogs to their first season-opening win since 2018.
"It's been a long time since we've won an opening game as a program," said
Sarah Martinez, Loring Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer. "It's a tough task starting a week late but this group grinded it out tonight. I'm super proud of the way we started this game and am so happy for JoJo to get that first goal under her belt."
"We showed glimpses of some good things but obviously plenty to clean up. I'm really happy with the way we battled defensively when needed and earned that result till the final whistle. We quickly shift our focus as we have a very quick turnaround to a gritty Hofstra team on Sunday," Martinez said.
