NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale field hockey team has been picked fourth in the Ivy League Preseason Poll, announced by the league on Tuesday.
A core group of returnees is back for
Melissa Gonzalez, who enters her fourth year as Yale's Caroline Ruth Thompson '02 Head Coach of Field Hockey. Yale returns four players who made 14 or more starts in 2024, when the Bulldogs came within one win of making the Ivy League Tournament. That group includes five returning 2024 All-Ivy League players, tied for second-most in the league.
The Ivy League field hockey tournament, in which the top four teams in the regular season standings compete for the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, takes place Nov. 7 and Nov. 9 at the site of the No. 1 seed.
Last season Princeton won the Ivy League title, going 7-0 in league play, and Harvard won the Ivy League Tournament. Yale was part of a three-way tie for fourth in the Ivy standings; Columbia had the tiebreaker advantage and claimed the fourth and final spot in the Ivy League Tournament.
